About

2018 Starting out

While I was studying Communication one of my roommates brought home a little envelop. She often carried around an old analog camera and she had finally gotten her rolls of film back from the lab. After seeing the photos she had taken, I decided to buy my own second hand analog camera and that is how i started out. After a while I had replaced this old analog camera with a newer digital camera. While I started taking an interest in photography, a lot of my friends started to get interested in Techno and DJ'ing. All this worked perfectly hand-in-hand. I started taking their press photos and documenting their raves. After a while I started getting more and more commissions and this interest of mine had developed into a full-blown carreer.

2023 The Vices

Later on I was contacted by a Groningen based band called The Vices. They were looking for a new photographer and thought I might be a great fit. Almost three years later I have to admit they were right. I got to join them on almost all their tours and shows. I was given full permission to document all the their highs and their lows. While this started out as a job, it quickly became a passion project. I started to feel more and more at home with the band and crew. I started to feel like I was part of the family. But during this time I grew a lot as a photographer as well. The Vices kept growing as a band and feeling the need to keep up with them, has been a great motivation. Next to photography I started to learn more about videography as well. Becoming more of an all-round visual artist for them.

2023 Stimuleringsfonds

After working as a photographer for a while I started to feel a bit burned out. I lot of the work I made was solely used as content and the most important part of the photos was aesthetic appeal. During this time I was suggested to apply for the Stimulingsfonds. As someone without an art academy background, I was a bit sceptical. But after a while I decided to give it a try. In the end I ended up getting the talent development grant. With this grant I was able to fund my own development year as an artist and photographer. In my plan I had focussed the most on learning analog techniques and developing myself as an artist. After a year of learning I slowly saw my vision of and my relationship to photography change. This culminated in my first series called "FEAR FOR LIFE". Being able to express these feelings in a series of photos was something I had never expected to be able to do.
